영어 spell 뿐만 아니라 한국어 자체의 의미도 항상 헷갈리는 공학의 field, electrical and electronic engineering.
현대에 와서 분야를 이렇게 나누어 놓는 것이 어떤 의미를 가지고 있는지는 모르겠지만...
이러한 분류(명칭)가 엄연히 존재하고 있다는 것을 알고 있다면
academic text을 읽고 이해하는데 조금이나마 도움이 되지 않을까... 하는 생각을 한다.
한국의 경우 electrical과 electronic 을 혼용하여 사용하고 있는 것이 사실이고,
다른 나라의 경우도 두 가지 field을 명확히 나누어서 운영하고 있지는 않은 것 같지만,
관례적으로... 직관적으로... 떠오르는 electrical and electronic engineering 에 대한 어렴풋한 공부내용을 염두하여 두고
IEEE education web page에서 나온 글을 요약한다면...
electrical engineering
- electrical engineering is considered to deal with the problems associated with large-scale electrical systems such as power transmission and motor control
- electrical engineers are usually concerned with using electricity to transmit energy.
electronic engineering
- whereas electronic engineering deals with the study of small-scale electronic systems including computers and integrated circuits (IC).
- electronic engineers are concerned with using electricity to transmit information.
